A group of Pembrokeshire College’s A-level physics students have been presented with certificates after coming top of the leader board in the Physics Olympiad.

The Olympiad A2 Challenge enables talented students to demonstrate their knowledge of physics by sitting a demanding exam paper, competing against other students from across the UK.

Congratulations to A-level physics students Beth Davis, Oliver McIntosh and Ethan Webster who each achieved a merit and will go on to participate in further rounds of the competition. Fellow students Finley Watson, Morgan Sparey and James Grant also completed the challenge with high scores.

Beth Davis was thrilled with the results: “The Olympiad paper was really challenging, it makes you think about Physics in a different way, linking different areas together.”

College lecturer in physics, Helen Coomer, is extremely proud of the group’s achievement and said: “The students have done exceptionally well! Their results are proof of their talent and knowledge of the subject. The Olympiad papers are known to stretch the very best physics students; their awards will be a prestigious addition to their CVs and applications to university.”

Pembrokeshire College deputy principal, Dr. Barry Walters, and head of A-levels, quality and skills, Arwyn Williams, presented the British Physics Olympiad certificates and congratulated the members of the group on their knowledge of such a valuable and wide-ranging subject.
