Tenby all-weather lifeboat Haydn Miller launched at 1.05 pm on Tuesday after Milford Haven Coastguard received a frantic call from a dog owner after their dog 'Spice', a chocolate Labrador fell from a high cliff near Stackpole Quay.
The dog survived the fall and was reported to be swimming, but tiring, having swum for some time in difficult sea conditions.
The lifeboat made best speed to Stackpole. The coxswain and crew assessed the situation and launched the 'Y' boat with two volunteers on board into dark a cove.
St. Govans Coast Rescue Team stood at the cliff top conning the 'Y' boat into position. In the meantime, 'Spice' had managed to cling to a rocky out crop having swum for over 40 minutes. As the crew approached, the dog swam towards them only to swim away as they got near. A crew member entered the water and guided 'Spice' back to the boat where he was recovered.
After a quick check over, 'Spice' was reunited with his tearful owners at Stackpole beach and put on his lead.
The lifeboat returned to Tenby and rehoused at 2.05 pm.
'Spice' was taken to a local vet and given the all clear having clearly escaped any injury.
