The Living Memory Group (LMG) founded by Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club recently had the honour of receiving and entertaining the Deputy Lieutenant of Dyfed, Mr. Jamie Lewis, to celebrate the formation of the Dementia-Friendly group two years ago.
The celebration took place in the Plum Tree Tea Rooms at Tavernspite Garden Centre. It was also attended by Pembrokeshire County Councillor Mr. Vic Dennis with his wife Linna.
Founder member of the LMG, Rotarian Mary Adams said: “What a fantastic time we all had at Plum Tree Tea Rooms for our Living Memory Group’s second birthday party. “A great turnout from Narberth Primary School RotaKids, accompanied by head teacher Nia Ward, and assistant Claire. Everyone enjoys a party - and what fabulous refreshments the Webb family offered.
“The fabulous day of singing, with music from the Elderly Brothers, brought great satisfaction and applause from those attending.”
During the afternoon, the president of Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club, Tony Ensom accompanied by his wife Jill, gave a brief history of the formation of the group back in 2017.
From humble beginnings, starting with just one member and a carer meeting in the Museum, the group now has over 20 members from various backgrounds, including visitors and carers from the Bloomfield Lee-Davies Community Day Care Centre.
The group has now applied to the Charity Commission for recognition and it has appointed its officers and trustees to run the charity.
Events are held every two weeks from 1.30 to 3.30 pm on the first and third Thursday of each month in various locations which can be found on the LMG Facebook page. A website is soon to be set up also.
Currently the programme of events for the next four weeks is as follows: April 4 - Therapy Ponies at Narberth Primary; April 18 - Elderly Brothers musicians at Narberth Museum; May 2 - Gentle chair aerobic exercises at Narberth RFC; and May 16 - Activities with the RotaKids in Narberth Primary.
Carers and organisations wishing to participate are encouraged to come along to any of the events to learn more about how the group operates. It is entirely free of charge.
