Over 40 members met on Wednesday for a most interesting talk about the De Valence. Deputy Mayor Christine told the history of the hall over the last decade or so, and introduced Dave, who is the events manager.
Together, a five-year plan for improvements was made, and a lot of electrical equipment has been updated. Members were so surprised to learn that the De Valence only had four electric outlets originally. The shows that are now using the hall are finding it very different.
Dave said that the latest arrival is tiered pull-out seats for the balcony, so that anyone sitting there will have a tremendous view of the stage.
The hall is just about fully booked over the whole of the summer, with weddings, films, local events, new shows and shows that are coming back again. Some of the most popular shows are already just about fully booked on-line. Family events, wrestling, skating are all part of the summer entertainment.
After various questions, and answers, Anne E. thanked Dave for his most interesting talk and asked members to give their usual clap of appreciation.
The next meeting on, Wednesday, April 3, will be at Dennis’s Café starting at midday for 12.30 for members who have booked and paid for this brunch. There is no meeting at Augustus Place Hall.
