With no definitive date on indoor entertainment venues being able to re-open across Wales, Tenby’s De Valence Pavilion are still hopeful that the premises might be able host some events over the summer period.
De Valence Trust committee member and town councillor, Clr. Mrs Christine Brown told her colleagues at a recent meeting of the town council that she did not envisage the venue which is located on Upper Frog Street being able to open until July/August or even later.
She said that there were many bookings pending with October through to December being ‘absolutely choc-a-block’.
A funk and soul club DJ event once again hosted by Craig Charles has been pencilled in for August 20; whilst a gig from renowned singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner has been rescheduled as part of his tour for Friday, October 1 with all previously sold tickets still valid.
Later in the year, a ‘night of Queen’ by tribute band The Bohemians has been scheduled ahead of Christmas on Friday, December 17; along with family pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk featuring reality TV star James Argent also in December.
Clr. Mrs. Browns said that usual dates for annual local events were all being kept open, and at the moment contractors were in the building installing new stage lighting and a line-array sound system to prepare the venue ready for re-opening.
The town clerk said that ‘state-of-the-art’ equipment was being installed, and when finished, should make the De Valence one of the ‘premier entertainment’ venues in Pembrokeshire.
Town council members also heard that the Trust was doing well with grant funding and a huge thank you was due to Pembrokeshire County Council for facilitating the grants received.
