Inspired by the amazing fundraising that has taken place over the past few weeks, the Jenkins family took on a sporting theme to help do their bit for the NHS.
After filling the lockdown time with endless games of backyard cricket, the cricket mad-family who play for local club Cresselly Cricket Club, decided to combine their passion for the game with an opportunity to raise funds for health care services.
To coincide with what should have been the start of the local cricket season, which would have seen Cresselly welcome local neighbours and rivals Lawrenny to their ground, Stefan and his sons Griff and Arthur arranged a T20 backyard cricket game, assisted by Lisa as scorer and youngest son Osian as umpire!
The idea which came to fruition at midday on Saturday, April 25 would see Stefan representing Cresselly Cricket Club, while Griff and Arthur joining forces to represent Lawrenny Cricket Club.
A JustGiving page was set up to raise funds and it quickly captured the imagination of friends, family and the local cricketing community. With an added bonus, the match was also streamed live on social media from the backyard so that people would be able to check in and watch the match progress.
The fundraising efforts meant that in less than 24 hours over £1,000 was raised for the NHS - a fantastic figure in such a short space of time.
As the match progressed over 700 people checked in to watch the game at some stage with over 50 viewers continuously watching throughout the afternoon.
After a tense game which saw Lawrenny score 196, Cresselly tied the game by scoring 196 off the last ball. This meant a super over where both teams faced 6 more balls.
Following a nerve shredding finale, the game ended with victory for Lawrenny with Griff and Arthur celebrating wildly over their dad!
A great afternoon for a great cause - and the family would like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who donated over the weekend!
