A young person from Pembrokeshire is among more than 20 young ambassadors who recently met in Malta as part of new European campaign 'Information Right Now!'

Sophie Hannaway, of Pembroke, was among young people from 13 countries recently who came together to raise awareness of the importance of youth information.

Sophie has been the chair of Pembrokeshire's Youth Assembly and is currently a member of the county's newly-formed youth editorial team. She is also a part-time youth information worker.

The 'Information Right Now!' campaign has been implemented by the European Youth Information and Counselling Agency - ERYICA in partnership with the Council of Europe.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among young people, decision makers and media on the special role of youth information with regard to young people's access to rights and - eventually - on the access to information as a right in itself for all young people.

The training course for the uoung ambassadors took place in the beautiful sea town of Marsaxlokk. The aim of the event was to raise awareness of the importance of young people's right to information, both as an essential right and a prerequisite for young people's access to their rights.

It also aimed to increase the abilities of young people to spread the message regarding the theme of the campaign, and strengthen the cooperation between young people from different parts of Europe by enhancing open attitudes towards different cultural experiences.

The youth ambassadors will now be involved throughout the campaign by the ERYICA member organisations by participating in campaign events in their own or other countries. These activities can also be debates or even advocacy meetings to stress the European dimension of the campaign.
