Pembroke Town Council have given Ironman Wales a massive 'thumbs up'.

The biggest ever sporting event in the county was discussed at a meeting of the council on Thursday.

Main Street was included in the cycle element, with over 1,300 riders travelling the 'wrong way' along Main Street, before turning around at the Lion Corner and heading out towards Lamphey.

Clr. Keith Nicholas was delighted with the event, stating that he had received glowing reports from spectators who had turned out to cheer on the athletes.

The atmosphere was great, with local entertainer Neil Thomas keeping the crowd amused and refreshments provided for the spectators in Pembroke Town Hall by Friends of South Pembs Hospital and Monkton Church.

"Congratulations to the organisers for bringing the huge event to Pembrokeshire," added Clr. Nicholas.

"Whilst there are a few lessons to be learnt before the 2012 event, I hope that Pembroke will continue to be part of Ironman Wales."
