What a brilliant day Cosheston Village Day turned out to be.
Children and adults had put a lot of effort, humour and fun into the designs for the pirate hat competition. A hard task for our local County Councillor Tessa Hodgson to judge.
It was great to have so many teams enter the treasure trail and just seeing the centre of the village full of young and older people chatting, laughing and walking around was a lovely sight.
In conjunction with the treasure trail, the Village History Group put on an exhibition in the church and supported Cosheston School in a village history project.
Of course, the weather on the day was terrific, maybe a little hot, but the teams looked none the worse when they eventually arrived back at the Village Hall. All the adult entrants were surprised and pleased to be given a small bottle of rum. The children in the teams happily received gold chocolate coins.
Some of the clues in the treasure trail were quite difficult, but amazingly, two teams scored exactly the same number of points. The judges' difficult decision was to give first prize of £100 to the smaller team and second prize of £75 to the larger team. The sum of £50 went to the third team.
The smell coming from the pig roast was so good that a queue soon formed. The pork was delicious with lovely crisp crackling and on such a hot day Upton Farm's ice-cream was very welcome. Relaxed and fed everyone sat on the grass verges talking and laughing, watching the children run and play around the car park.
By the time the sun began to fade, the crowd moved into the Village Hall. Mel and Kevin kept the bar going all afternoon and evening. Music from the California Cover Band was loud and the rhythm's infectiousness got old and young, families and neighbours dancing together.
What a great day!
Bet you can't wait to know what will happen at next year's Cosheston Village Day.
