The benefits of volunteers in the community was recently highlighted at a meeting of Tenby town council, when praise was given to those that have conducted spruce-ups of areas around the resort.

At the meeting, the town clerk Andrew Davies wished to highlight a local gentleman by the name of Mr. Tim Caddy who has adopted the Lions Gardens on Battery Road, and on a daily basis has been conducting - litter picking, tackling overgrown shrubbery and clearing away weeds.

Mr. Davies also thanked the the town council’s very own town crier Clr. Jim Cornwell for doing an ‘excellent job’ in painting the gates to the Rotary Garden.

Clr. Laurence Blackhall referred to the town council’ EPF bid and the target to have a certain percentage of Tenby’s gardens looked after by volunteers.

This kind of volunteering was really important, remarked the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sam Skyrme-Blackhall, and through the town council engaging with the community, it ensured that the gardens were enhanced for the town.

The Mayor also wished to help the local Guides and Brownies, as recently it had been an uphill battle to keep these organisations going for youngsters, as she highlighted that the community was lucky to have people in place who were prepared to put in the time and effort.

It was mentioned that the Guides and Brownies were looking to conduct a litter pick in Tenby to up their profile and to engage more youngsters to join them, so any ideas were welcome.

The Plastic Free Tenby Group had also conducted a litter pick over the weekend, added the Mayor, offering congratulations to all involved.
