Former Pembroke School pupil and Bath Spa graduate Emma Cox is the newest voice to join the Torch Theatre’s team of Community Reviewers.

Rooted in Pembrokeshire and driven by a lifelong passion for the arts, especially music, Emma holds a BA (Hons) in Journalism and Publishing, and brings a unique blend of creativity, cultural insight, and musical curiosity to the role.

During her degree, Emma developed a wide-ranging creative portfolio, writing on topics such as fashion, culture, international affairs, and the arts. Her work has explored the influence of music and subcultures, including the new wave of punk emerging in Pembrokeshire, where local bands and young people are reviving the raw, urgent sound of early punk to confront modern social issues.

She also contributed to projects involving Bristol Pride and Bath Carnival, and the wider conversation around representation and recognition in the media. From social media marketing to magazine design, Emma explored the many ways creative platforms can inform and inspire. “I see publishing as a powerful storytelling tool, one that continues to evolve alongside digital platforms and social change,” she comments.

Emma’s love for storytelling has always gone hand in hand with her love of sound. “I’ve always been drawn to the music of the 70s,” she said. “It’s an era full of experimentation, honesty, and cultural shift. I think that really shows up powerfully in both the music and the films of the time. I find it endlessly inspiring.”

In her new role as a reviewer, Emma is excited to explore the Torch Theatre’s diverse programme of live performance, film, and music-related events.

“The Torch is a huge part of the creative life of Pembrokeshire, it helps keep local arts and culture thriving, and it’s exciting to be even a small part of that,” she said. “Being part of that is incredibly exciting, especially as someone who’s passionate about music and the role it plays in culture.”

Emma’s reviews will blend thoughtful critique with a creative, music-loving perspective, shining a light on the shows, screenings, and sounds coming to one of the county’s most iconic venues.

“This is a new venture for me, and I can’t wait to get stuck in and while I polish my reviewer’s voice, I hope to bring you along for the ride with thoughtful and exciting reviews,” added Emma.
