PRESIDENT Marlene welcomed everyone to Summerhill’s October meeting at Amroth Parish Hall, which would soon see members delving into Haverfordwest’s history with Simon Hancock.
A special welcome was given to new members Anne Dodd and Sandra Ingerson.
Congratulations were given to Linnia and Vic on their 45th Wedding Anniversary, also Margaret J and George on their 46th, Linda and Len on their 48th, and Marilyn and Trevor on their 57th – congratulations to them all.
After the minutes were read, the financial statement was given and the correspondence dealt with. The Federation letter was discussed; Marilyn and Belinda will be attending the Pembrokeshire Federation of WIs (PFWI) AGM in November.
Upcoming events were discussed with the Christmas dinner to be held at The New Inn, Amroth on Wednesday November 26; menu choices and £10 deposit required at the November meeting.
With no further business Marlene introduced Simon Hancock from Haverfordwest Museum who gave an outstanding talk on the history of Haverfordwest using artefacts as date references. Such items included the town seal, a jade chess piece found under Ocky White’s excavation, religious stone carvings, paintings of local dignitaries and even the tail fin of a WWII incendiary bomb!
Mr Hancock was warmly thanked by Sue Cale for a most interesting talk.
Following refreshments served by Kay, Marilyn and Sue Cale the raffle was drawn with Kay the lucky winner.
The next meeting will be on November 10 at 7pm when the subject will be Textile Jewellery by Maureen Davies; hostesses to be Joanne, Margaret Llewellyn and Sue Evans.
