Fifteen-year-old Luca Davies of Begelly is making waves in his community, quite literally, by cutting off his long-held locks in an act of generosity and support for two heartfelt causes.

For the past few years, Luca has been growing his distinctive dark red hair with a mission. On Friday, April 25, 2025, he walked into Andrew Price’s Narberth salon, where stylist Nathan helped Luca realise his dream of a dramatic hair cut for charity.

Luca chose to donate his beautiful hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real-hair wigs to children and young adults who have lost hair due to cancer or other medical conditions.

Luca’s commitment to community care began in January 2024, when he started volunteering with The Paul Sartori Foundation, a Pembrokeshire hospice-at-home charity. He volunteered for a year at their Narberth Sartori Store, gaining invaluable retail experience and gaining insight into how the Foundation support families facing end-of-life.

Reflecting on his experience, Luca said: “Being a member of Paul Sartori showed me what it means to help the community. The money which is raised will go to Paul Sartori, and my hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust.”

Within a month of announcing his intention to forfeit his beautiful locks, Luca had already raised over £500, and by the day of his haircut at Andrew Price’s Narberth salon, donations totalled £1,480 online, not including gift aid.

Social media buzzed with praise; a Facebook post celebrating his achievement noted he raised an “astonishing £2,215.50,” demonstrating the full fundraising impact across platforms as well as a huge swell of family and community support for this remarkable young man.

Paul Sartori Community Fundraising Officer Joanne Lutwyche said:

“By undertaking this sponsored haircut and raising more vital funds, Luca highlights the importance of young people’s support of our local hospice at home charity. We rely on fundraising efforts such as this to keep our clinical services operating for free for families in Pembrokeshire.”

Luca’s actions have sparked admiration across the community, from his fellow volunteers in the Narberth Sartori store to his schoolteachers, and even total strangers who have heard of Luca’s daring good deed. Donations poured in from friends, local businesses like Lloyds Jewellers, and supporters who left encouraging messages such as “you’re a superstar!” on his JustGiving page.

His commitment - growing his hair for years, volunteering for a full year, and raising over £2,000 - is a shining example of how individuals, no matter their age, can make a real difference.
