THE 2026 Angle New Year’s Day Dip brought the community together for a spectacular start to the year, raising an impressive £2,694.36 to support free hospice at home services provided by the Paul Sartori Foundation.
With a fantastic number of brave dippers taking to the water - 250 brave souls entered the freezing sea at Angle on January 1 in aid of the Paul Sartori Foundation - this year’s event was one of the charity’s most successful dips yet, and the participants were described as “absolute heroes!”
The atmosphere at West Angle Bay was electric as friends, families, and supporters gathered to cheer on the participants. From seasoned dippers to first timers, the courage and enthusiasm shown in the icy water truly embodied the spirit of Pembrokeshire.
Local photographer Martin Cavaney was there and commented: “This event is growing and growing so well done to all involved in organising it and of course the swimmers as well.”
This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of Paul Sartori’s community partners. Heartfelt thanks go to Wavecrest Café, The Hibernia Inn, KJ Prints, Cwtch Laser Designs, Communic8, Axon, Pembrokeshire Paddlers, and the fantastic team of Paul Sartori event volunteers, without whom the charity simply could not run events like this. Their time, dedication, and community spirit ensured a smooth and memorable day for everyone involved.
The Pembrokeshire-based Hospice at Home charity also extends sincere thanks to every individual who braved the waves as part of this fundraising effort. “Your support in highlighting our cause and raising sponsorship means the world to us,” said a spokesperson for Paul Sartori. “Every penny raised helps us continue providing vital hospice at home care, free at the point of need, to families across Pembrokeshire.”
The Paul Sartori Foundation provides compassionate, free hospice at home services to people over the age of 18 with life-limiting illness in Pembrokeshire. Its services include hands on nursing care, equipment hire, complementary therapy, advance care planning, bereavement support, and more. The charity aims to ensure people can receive end-of-life care in the comfort of their own homes, surrounded by the people and things they love.
Joanne Lutwyche, Event and Fundraising Officer for Paul Sartori, and Founder of the Angle New Year’s Day Dip said of the event:
“This year's dip was absolutely brilliant. The energy on the beach, the support from the community, and the bravery of every single dipper made this one of our best years yet. I am so grateful to everyone who turns up, volunteers, donates, and shouts encouragement from the sidelines. Events like this have a direct impact on our clinical team, allowing them to continue providing essential care to people with life-limiting illness in their own homes. I could not be prouder of what our community achieved together today.”
