Narberth’s annual summer festival, Civic Week got off to a sunshine start on Sunday.
Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Ruth Platt, was delighted the sunshine put in an appearance for the civic celebrations which opened the week-long event.
“The sun was out and a large attendance was present for the civic parade and service at Bethesda Baptist Church which was conducted by Rev. Chris Rees,” said Clr. Mrs. Platt.
“Sunday was a brilliant day, the town crier leading the parade, followed by Milford Haven town band who played the traditional marching band music,” she continued.
“Civic heads and Mayors across Pembrokeshire joined in the parade. Narberth organisations and charities of the town were also present.
“It was an honour to have our two local county councillors and their wives present Vic and Linnia Dennis, Elwyn and Meirion Morse, the county link officer Barry Cooke and Helen Cooke, also guest speaker, Freeman Brawn and his wife Ann, Nicky Evans, toastmaster, for me for the fourth time, and the standard bearers of the RBL women’s and men’s section.
“The Brownies, Beavers Cubs, Scouts, Guides, Explorers also made up the parade and it was a delight to see them present just a couple of days into starting their school holidays.”
Clr. Mrs. Platt added: “Before the commencement of the lunch and mentioned in the church, acknowledgments were made of the death of our two councillors, Henry Langen and Eric Feetham. Narberth town councillors and guests stood for a minute silence prior to the lunch being served.
“Also present was Wyn Calvin and his wife Carole who gave his usual comical response to the attendees at the Plas where the civic lunch was held.”
The Mayor would like to thank all the people who helped to make this event a spectacular day.
Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers, chairman of Civic Week, said: “We had a great start to the week, the weather was with us and there was a large parade. The day continued with wet and wild which was amazing and thanks go to Narberth firefighters for their help. The quiz in the RAOB was soldout too and winners, the 3 Amigos (Steve, Liz, Mary and Elizabeth) gave their prize money of £70 to Civic Week which was very generous.”
The festivities continue today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) - Carnival Day.
