Bringing in the laughs this Christmas is the Span Arts Comedy Club. There are some great comedians lined up for you, including a winner of the ‘Best Comedy’ award at the National Student Radio Awards. Check them all out on Thursday, December 10, at the Queen’s Hall, Narberth.
Headline act of the night is Cardiff-based Elis James, a bilingual stand-up comedian who can perform in English or Welsh. Elis won the ‘Best Comedy’ prize at the National Student Radio Awards in 2006, and was nominated for best club comic in the 2014 Chortle Awards.
Born in Carmarthen, Elis has previously featured on Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three), and has been described by The List as ‘a complete joy’ and should be ‘at the top of your list’ of comics to see live (The Fest).
Currently Elis is starring in hit BBC3 sitcom ‘Josh’ with Josh Widdicombe and Jack Dee. He also filmed a lead role in the BBC prison sitcom 600 Days, later renamed Crims. The sitcom aired on BBC Three in early 2015.
Second act of the evening is Andrew Watts. Described by Time Out as ‘posh and witty... exquisitely funny ... one of the new comics making waves’, Watts is one of the most talked-about new acts on the comedy circuit, whose distinctive style and original material mark him out as one to watch for the future.
December’s MC is Chris Purchase. Since becoming a professional comedian in 2009, Chris has taken his talents all over the country sharing the stage with some of the best comedians in the world. Recently hand-picked to support Reginald D. Hunter and after performing in two sell-out Edinburgh shows, headlining Boardmasters festival for four consecutive years and entertaining thousands, Chris is now previewing his first solo show ‘Be Better’.
Span Arts’ Comedy Club offers the perfect night of fun, food and a feelgood factor and is ideal for Christmas work parties or for a get-together with some friends and family. Tickets are available from the Span Arts website at span-arts.org.uk or from the Box Office on 01834 869323.
