Governors at a school in Tenby have given their thanks for efforts by local councillors to flag up motorists failing to adhere to the speed restrictions outside the facility.
Concerns had been raised at a governors meeting of St. Teilo’s School recently that motorists were not sticking to the 20 mph speed limit that had been introduced on Greenhill Road.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Dr. Peter Easy told his colleagues that he had recently spoken to the chair of the governors at the school who had thanked councillors for drawing awareness to the issue by discussing it in the council chambers.
“Local PCSOs have also been quite active along that area monitoring the matter and have visited the school,” said Clr. Dr. Easy.
Clr. Will Rossiter suggested that perhaps a flashing 20 mph sign would be more beneficial in that area, as he found it “ridiculous” that motorists had to climb the hill on that route in second gear.
“It creates pollution and this is also people’s health that we are talking about!” he remarked.
Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane told her colleagues that it was the safety of the children that should be the priority.
“For 20 years we’ve been asking for a 20 mph speed limit along that area. The children are the priority and far more important,” she responded.
