Tenby Male Choir brought a very successful Summer Season to a dramatic close last Thursday with a fantastic Gala Concert in conjunction with Serendipity Ladies Choir.
Regrouping for practices when Covid restrictions were lifted in July 2021, a smaller choir returned to performing and fundraising this May, putting on 16 concerts and singing at several private events.
Thousands of pounds have been raised for causes including the DEC Ukraine Appeal, Save the Children, Cancer Research Wales, Tenovus Cancer Care, RNLI, Penally Village and Tenby Scout & Guides Halls, as well as St Mary’s and St John’s churches. Fulfilling another of the choir’s aims, concerts have once again featured a number of gifted local young musicians, showcasing their talents for our audiences.
The summer’s final concert also marked a ‘changing of the guard’ for Tenby Male Choir as the well-known broadcaster Roy Noble OBE retired as President following 35 years of service. Roy kindly introduced his successor, opera singer and broadcaster Wynne Evans BEM, presenting him with a Tenby Male Choir tie. The Choir looks forward to many years of working with Wynne as he champions amateur live performance and singing in particular.
In the pictures above, new President Wynne Evans BEM is seen with Master of Ceremonies Tony Key OBE and soloist John Butland. Roy Noble explains the significance of one of his retirement gifts presented to him by Chairman Tom Pearce and Secretary Terry Evans: a photograph of the Tudor House in Tenby where his grandfather grew up. Mr Noble told how his association with the choir has provided him with an ongoing link back to his roots.
