The chairman of Tenby in Bloom has vowed to continue to fight for the resort to gain gold recognition in the Wales in Bloom competition.

The town won its 31st Wales in Bloom title last week, at a results ceremony held in Prestatyn, taking top place in the ‘coastal resort up to 12,000’ category, with a silver gilt.

However, Tenby in Bloom chairman, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, who attended the awards, told her colleagues at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council that, despite taking another title, it was frustrating that gold validation still eluded the town.

“We’ve worked so hard, but don’t seem to be able to get further up the ladder in achieving a gold,” she remarked.

“We up our work on certain elements of the scheme, but seem to get less points in those categories when we read the judges’ reports.

“On participation, we now have nine schools in the area involved, who have gone on to win awards themselves, so I don’t see how we can lose points from last year in that category. It doesn’t make sense, and I don’t know what the answer is to get a gold,” continued Clr. Mrs. Lane.

Clr. Christine Brown suggested that it might be useful to point out to the judges, that Tenby only has a budget to work towards spring and summer.

The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, said that he was sure that Clr. Mrs. Lane’s determination would eventually lead to Tenby getting a gold.

“I’m confident that will happen with all the excellent work done and Clr. Lane’s leadership. It is volunteer leadership leading volunteers, and that is something to be proud of,” he commented.

“We’ll continue to work hard and I’d like to thank the whole town and everyone who gets involved with the ‘in bloom’ programme and supports us for their hard work over the year,” added Clr. Mrs. Lane.
