A Tenby councillor’s wish to see a spruce-up of the Castle Hill area appears to have come true.
At a Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas told her colleagues that she was prepared to have a ‘big rant’ about the weeding and maintenance work that needed carrying out in that area, but was pleased to here that Pembrokeshire County Council were in the process of tackling the matter.
She said that she also hoped that the ‘magic wishing seat’ on Castle Hill which appeared to have been forgotten about, as the area had become so overgrown would now been see again.
“The hogweed there has reached a dangerous height and the valerian is damaging the castle walls, but I’m told by the town clerk that work starts tomorrow - so I won’t rant until I see what they’ve done, and hopefully it is something productive!” she laughed.
Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, agreed that the hogweed needed to be dealt with especially, as it was very dangerous.
“My grandson grasped some hogweed recently, and came out in blisters, so it only takes for someone to brush past it,” she remarked.
Clr. Mrs. Thomas suggested to her colleagues if it was worth writing to local AMs to see if there is any Welsh Government funding available to look at protecting such areas as Castle Hill and the town walls, under an ancient landmarks or heritage scheme.
The Deputy Mayor agreed: “We can write to see where we get - if you don’t ask, you don’t get!” she said.
