On a glorious sunny afternoon, family members, friends and colleagues of the late, much missed Doreen Hammersley gathered on Castle Hill to dedicate a bench in her memory.
Lower Landsker Trefoil Guild had initiated the prospect, but donations came in from every corner of the community, and all were represented at the dedication.
Chairman, Margaret Peake welcomed everyone, including members of the Hammersley family, the chairman of Trefoil Wales, Viv Grant, County Commissioner of Girlguiding Cymru, Sian Garside, and the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Laurence Blackhall accompanied by Mayoress, Sam Skyrme.
Nicole Evans read a message from Doreen’s past colleague, Margaret James, and spoke about her sense of fun and love of life.
Rev. John Morgan then gave an outline of all that Doreen had achieved and contributed to the community before dedicating the bench.
Finally, the ribbons were cut by Doreen’s great-grand-daughters, and all agreed that the bench was in the perfect position for an artist to spend many a happy hour.
Tea and cakes were served at Church House, and all were able to browse many of Doreen’s paintings.
Lower Landsker Trefoil Guild are grateful to Elaine and the rest of the family for allowing everyone to take a painting of their choice for a donation to the Scout and Guide Hall, and it is a testament to Doreen’s talent that over £250 was raised. Thanks are extended to everyone who contributed in any way, and to those who came along to witness this fitting memorial to a lady who lived life to the full.
