2018 was another successful year for Carten 100 and its riders, who were not only lucky with the weather and wind but also fundraised a fantastic total of £147,469 which was spread across seven main charities in memory of our ‘Ride for Simon’.

However, 2018 also marked another momentous achievement for the Carten crew as it was recently announced that collectively they have fundraised over a million pounds for worthwhile causes across Wales, to be exact £1,005,086.12 since the ride from Cardiff to Tenby became a fundraising event 13 years ago.

“None of this could be achieved without the support of all our Cartenners so, ‘Thank you’ for getting us to this total,” said one of the Founder Riders Dave Stealey.

The event organisers are also asking those that have taken part over the years, if they have a Carten story.

“Carten was started by group of friends. The ride naturally grew when they asked their friends if they fancied the challenge, then they asked their friends and they asked their friends,” explained Dave.

“Before long Carten went from a handful of mates to 2,500 riders.

“The camaraderie is strong on the ride because really, we are all a bunch of mates.

“We know there are a lot of riders who take on the Carten for a loved one, special cause, as part of a fitness challenge or to just celebrate a change in lifestyle.

“In any of these cases the Carten crew would love to hear from you and have you share your story with us if only to inspire others and keep the ‘Spirit of Carten’ alive,” he continued.

Cancer effects everybody differently, from how it manifests in a body to how a person copes with diagnosis, so for 2019 we are working with two key charities Jos Trust (Cervical Cancer) and Prostate Cymru to raise vital funds and awareness of these ‘taboo’ areas of health, for our ‘Riding out Taboos’ race,” added Dave.
