The sun was shining when the Welsh section of the Alvis Owner Club held a rally at Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre on Sunday. The club had been invited to visit Pembroke Dock to join in the town's bicentenary celebrations after a party from the bicentenary group attended an International Alvis Rally near Cardiff in 2013. It was a fitting visit to Pembroke Dock as the founder of Alvis Motors, Thomas John, was born in the town. He trained in the Royal Dockyard and the National School before founding the Alvis company in 1919 - the company produced cars, aeroplane engines and today makes armoured vehicles. The Alvis Club toured the county on Saturday and then attended the rally at the chapel on Sunday where they were warmly greeted by the public. Before leaving on Sunday, the cars were driven to 6 Church Street, birthplace of Thomas John, where they were welcomed by the current owners, John and Tina Phillips.
