Known locally as the John Elliott of Eareweare estate, Amroth Castle dating back to the 15th century, has been recently acquired by Countrywide Park Homes for an undisclosed multi-million pound deal, as a Holiday home venue.

The spectacular holiday park sits yards from a mile of its own private beach, looking out over Carmarthen Bay, with the imposing castle commanding an impressive vantage point.

“Once a hidden gem and the heart of Pembrokeshire, the currently neglected Amroth Castle and grounds is a shadow of itself, so we have vowed to invest heavily in the development to bring the Castle and grounds back to its former glory days,” said Anthony Barney, chair of Countrywide Park Homes - a family- run business, with over 50 years’ experience within the holiday lodge and residential bungalow industry.

“We are really excited to be adding Amroth Castle to our portfolio, the castle itself and the surroundings are absolutely stunning, along with the backdrop of the beach.

“It is very early stages but we have invested heavily in Amroth Castle and will continue to do so, looking for ways to improve the development and action as we see fit- this will be one of our flagship parks,” he added.

However, caravan owners of the site, have voiced their concerns to the Observer on the matter, stating that they had been kept in the dark over the sale.

“I would like to voice not only my concerns, but also for many other caravan owners, in fact 145!” said one owner, who wished to remain anonymous.

“Between Covid and this development it’s been a very difficult and worrying time. In 2020 we were closed due to restrictions resulting in being closed from March 23 to July 13, then another further lockdown - with no financial credit or help from the park!

“This year we have been hearing constant rumours, this for most of the season - then in July there was even more usual regular attendances by the Amroth castle hierarchy activity on site. Yet we still had received no contact or communications with any of the 145 existing caravan owners over a pending sale.

“This resulted in a possible buy out, but still nothing from the Amroth site manager of 30 years, who remained poker faced. When approached by many caravan owners, he just said ‘I’ve seen it all before’ but it’s finally happened.

“In August 2021, there were then many different suit cladded strangers with clip boards walking around the park, and it transpired these were surveyors and architects etc and representatives of Countrywide Parks.

“Throughout the year though, the existing Amroth castle management continued to play poker faced and silent, claiming they knew nothing. The running of the site was clearly and obviously changing, and eroding, with staff also feeling in limbo,” they continued.

“I’d just bought a brand new £70k caravan, ordered the previous year, and sited in June, and existing Amroth castle caravan owners are very concerned.

“Despite Countrywide Parks making this very recent announcements of the buy out, there has not been one contact to any of the existing caravan park owners, or their plans for caravan owners.

“From December 1 just gone, the existing Amroth Castle telephone number has now been diverted to Countrywide Parks in Nottingham, meaning existing owners are still being kept in the dark.

“Countrywide parks portfolio is generally £250k log cabins and of a residential nature. Amroth Castle since 1958 has always been a family caravan park, with static caravan pitches, so where does this leave us?

“We have all paid our deposits for next season, but our big concern is - is it safe to pay the remaining £4,000 site fees due end of January? That’s £4000 x 145 caravans!

“We are very disappointed and extremely concerned with the way this has been handled, as many of us have life savings invested in our caravans,” they added.
