Businesses in two historic Pembrokeshire towns are getting a make-over thanks to a renovation grant.

Commercial properties in Pembroke and Pembroke Dock are benefiting from an EU-backed renovation grant scheme.

The aim of the scheme is to boost town centres by improving the fabric of their buildings.

Praising the scheme, Clr. David Pugh, cabinet member for economy, tourism and communities, said both Pembroke and Pembroke Dock town centres had looked a little tired of late and in need of a face-lift.

"I am sure that when all these projects are complete, they - along with other enhancement schemes - will greatly improve the street scene and, hopefully, encourage other business owners to upgrade their own shop frontages," he said.

"In these challenging times, towns such as Pembroke and Pembroke Dock have to put on their best face to compete with other visitor destinations."

The renovation grant scheme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and is part of a £3.2m EU backed scheme to revitalise and restore the rich heritage of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock.

Total grant funding from the scheme awarded to date is £846,067 which, in turn, has attracted £1,441.885 of private sector investment.

Grants cover improvements to external and internal structures as well as fabric repairs, restoration of architectural detailing and re-use of vacant floor space.
