There has been another blow to a longstanding business in Tenby with news that the Five Ways Garage situated on the main gateway into the resort has ceased trading.
The garage and shop located on The Green, which in recent years has been run by Oil 4?Wales Ltd and Spar, closed its doors at the turn of the New Year.
“Unfortunately when the authorities allowed Co-op planning to build another convenience store directly behind us at the garage it was pretty much the death of our business,” explained Sally Owens, director of Oil 4 Wales Ltd
“With Tenby already having a large convenience store in the centre of town it left us dying a death in our shop.
“Margins in petrol are small and the shop is what subsidies the profit.
“We acquired the garage and a significant debt with it some years ago when the previous owner Mr. David Thompson went bankrupt.
“The lease was coming to an end and with the site making considerable losses month after month and with us not being able to agree more beneficial rent terms with the landlord we had to make the sad decision to leave.
“The staff have all been wonderful there and it was a difficult decision to make but with the continued losses it just wasn’t sustainable,” she added.
