As reported last week, a jubilant Memorial Park Committee met on site last week to witness the first stage in the construction of a new bike track for Pembroke Dock.

Chair of the committee, Clr. Sue Perkins, told us: "This is the culmination of six years of hard work - getting permissions, getting the funding and getting the right design.

"Many thanks to the committee who have been so supportive and hard-working, the town and county council and to the young people who have helped us design the track.

"Construction is well underway and when it is finished in the spring it will be a facility people of all ages can enjoy in a safe and friendly environment.

"Next step will be the skate park and the young people are already fundraising for the project. We are fired up by their enthusiasm and are busy applying for grants so that we can crack on with this fantastic facility."

Christine Gwyther, co-ordinator of Llanion Communities First, added: "This bike track represents everything a community project should be about - healthy activity, fun, social interaction and good use of space.

"It will be a family affair - with children, young people, mums and dads all getting on their bikes and having a go.

"As the saying goes, this project has been a marathon not a sprint, but we've finally got there. Well done to the committee for sticking with it over six years and I look forward to seeing the first batch of riders give the course their own seal of approval."
