Tenby is set for a ‘Big Spring Beach Clean’ next month as support for the plastic-free coastlines initiative for the resort grows.

The South Beach clean will take place on Saturday, April 14, from 11 am, in conjunction with the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), following another meeting of the ‘Plastic-Free Tenby’ campaigners.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Laurence Blackhall said that a number of people were working on different ideas towards the scheme, one of which was introducing Tenby branded reusable cups, an initiative that the group were discussing with Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism.

The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, said that Tenby in Bloom would like to get on board with the initiative.

Clr. Mrs. Samantha Skyrme-Blackhall said the recent meeting had been ‘very good’, with a lot of local people attending at Caffi Pura to find out more on how Tenby can become accredited as a plastic-free town.

“The beach clean on April 14 will act as an official launch for the scheme and it is envisaged that there will be further beach cleans each month.

“We would like to see signage put up as well to show that the town is working towards being plastic-free, and encourage people to take their rubbish with them from the beaches and dispose of it properly,” she added.
