Sir, I found the letter describing the ‘Staring’ signage likened to Orwell’s dystopian novel ‘1984’ as absolutely ridiculous. Nobody is going to be offended by the signage (except Mr. James Insell). The problem is that the signs are not visible enough.

Today (Tuesday, May 18) on my walk from the South Beach to Castle Beach, I passed six people with dogs and some I politely pointed out that no dogs were allowed on that stretch of beach. The replies varied from “thank you I didn’t know” to “we didn’t see any signs” and a pair of young ladies said “well they have to catch us first.”

The problem is that the signs are not visible enough. There is a sign by the Dennis about 18ins x 12ins big and at the top of a seven-foot pole. And people can walk their dogs from Giltar to Castle Beach along the beach without seeing a single sign.

With more visitors to Tenby this summer, things will just get worse unless there are more signs. Mr. Orwell’s signs need to work because I’ve never seen any ‘Enforcement Teams’ helping him.
