Sir,
I really must take issue with my pampered canine neighbour, Sid, over his letter to you (Observer, August 14) regarding the noise from the fireworks display on the harbour.
I admit that the bangs at the opening and at the finale of the displays do give me something of a start, but rather than cower behind my human’s legs, I go outside and vocally express my displeasure.
We canines have to tolerate the foibles of our humans and if these noisy events give them some pleasure in these otherwise austere times then so be it. After all, it only happens a few times a year and the noise is no worse than that caused by nature’s thunder storms and, at least, it is not accompanied by heavy rain which I really dislike.
My human goes out to watch these displays and when she returns home always gives me a cuddle to apologise for any disturbance to my evening snooze. Perhaps Sid should school his humans to be more considerate in future.
Mika,
