It will take place at 5.30 pm on Monday, May 7, at the Queen’s Hall, High Street.
The launch will feature a poem by Narberth Youth Theatre and a short, stunningly beautiful film called Skye’s the Limit.
Skye’s The Limit documents Cal Major’s solo circumnavigation of the Isle of Skye, Scotland, on stand-up paddle board. In a bid to highlight that even these wild, remote and beautiful places are vulnerable to plastic pollution, Cal braves 200 miles of ripping tidal races, storms, strong winds and massive swell to journey around the island and access even the most remote beaches.
With over 100,000 sea mammals and over a million sea birds killed every year as a result of plastic pollution, Skye’s The Limit demonstrates that even wild and seemingly untouched places like this aren’t safe against this threat, but how with simple changes we can all be a part of the solution.
Clr. Cris Tomos, Pembrokeshire County Council’s cabinet member for the environment, will be there to outline why supporting Plastic Free Narberth is so important, not only now, but for future generations.
After these presentations, there will be a delicious soup and bread made by Corinne Castle from Transition Bro Gwaun and the Narberth Men’s Bread Group.
The event has been jointly organised by Pembrokeshire Friends of the Earth and the Landsker branch of the Labour party.
Local Labour County Councillor, Vic Dennis said: “We are looking forward to an excellent event with some truly inspiring pieces. We will have stalls provided by Plastic Free Narberth, Surfers Against Sewage and Pembrokeshire County Council. There will be a chance to wander around the stalls, exchange ideas and an opportunity to make pledges to PFN.
“We have been helped by pupils and staff at Narberth School to design an outstanding logo for Plastic Free Narberth/Arberth di-blastig. The school and pupils’ enthusiasm has been terrific. We have already launched a Facebook page that regularly has great new ideas posted on it.
“As well as welcoming the public, we want businesses and community leaders specifically, to come along and bring their enthusiasm and ideas to the launch of Plastic Free Narberth.”
