A popular beach side cafe in Tenby has delivered some bad news to diners this festive period after announcing that it will be unable to continue to open over the winter months.
A post on the Facebook page of the Dennis Cafe, situated on the resort’s Castle Beach, broke the news this week stating: “After consulting with Pembrokeshire County Council, and with the rent/rate increases we will be unable to continue opening in the winter months. Everyone at the Dennis is sorry but our hands are tied.”
Comments from cafe-goers expressed their sadness at the news on social media, with one stating: “So sad to hear the sad news. That little cafe is a real asset to Tenby’s harbour. It is a place that welcomes all - dog walkers, families, everyone. If it closes, Tenby will lose another, unique reason for visiting.”
It was also revealed on the same thread that another popular dining experience situated at the resort’s harbour area The Ocean Restaurant, on St Julian’s Street had fully closed for business.
There was more bad news for the town’s High Street this week, when New Look announced that it’s Tenby store was one of a number closing across the UK, with a spokesperson for the clothing company stating: “I can confirm our store in Tenby is due to close and last day of trade will be January 22."
Another national retailer is believed to be in position to occupy the shop’s unit.
One piece of positive news for Tenby’s High Street, was the opening of the Seasalt store in Tudor Square this month, which occupies the former Natwest bank building.
Co-founder and chairman of the clothing store, Neil Chadwick said of the store’s opening in Tenby: “It’s a beautiful place with many similarities to our Cornish towns - and the people are so friendly and welcoming.”
