A 50-year-old man who worked as a waiter at a Pembroke Dock Asian restaurant has been given a 12-month conditional discharge by Haverfordwest magistrates after pleading guilty to drugs offences. Aklas Miah, who gave his address in court on Tuesday as Penlan, Swansea, pleaded guilty to possessing a quantity of heroin and six diazepam tablets, after he was arrested on April 29. Prosecutor Peter Lloyd told the court that Mr. Miah was working at the Seven Spice restaurant on London Road, when police attended the premises at 8 am, after the defendant reported that he had been assaulted. "Officers spoke to Mr. Miah, a waiter at the restaurant, who made the allegation that he had been assaulted, but whilst they were there, the defendant became unsteady on his feet and an ambulance was called," said Mr. Lloyd. As officers believed the defendant to be under the influence, he was searched in the back of the ambulance, and they discovered the quantity of drugs in his possession. Mr. Miah's solicitor told the court that the defendant had been a heroin addict who was on a programme to deal with the issue, but that he had succumbed to the drug again on this occasion after suffering with stress. Magistrates fined Mr. Miah £40 for the offences, gave him a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered the destruction of the drugs. They also ordered the defendant to pay costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
