Last summer we tried three times to do today’s walk each time postponed because of awful weather conditions so it was very satisfying to have a clear sunny day today, as this walk is all about the views; over the whole of whole of Pembrokeshire, some of Carmarthenshire, Ceridigeon and even Worms Head on the Gower Peninsular was spotted, writes Lyn Sandall.
The three mile walk took in the rocky outcrop of Carn Menyn where the Bluestones at Stonehenge reputedly originated from (though Jim one of our Strollers told us of recent research that has proved they came from other rocky outcrops further west of this point).
The walk then took in the summit of Foel Drygarn which is the site of an Iron Age Fort with three Bronze Age Cairns and the remains of the ancient walls still evident:
The countryside from this vantage point was a real patchwork quilt of colourful fields; sea; woodlands; farms and small clusters of houses in tiny hamlets dotted around, everywhere looking very fresh after the rainfall over the weekend.
A picnic lunch was enjoyed here, during which everyone soaked up the amazing views and the fine display of cloud formations in the sky, before returning to the cars and travelling back home.
