Sir,
I just need to start by saying I have never complained in my life, but this has annoyed me so much I just could not let it go. My husband and I came to Tenby Easter weekend, travelling from mid-Wales on Thursday, staying until Bank Holiday Monday. We arrived just after mid-day, booked into our bed and breakfast and proceeded to park our car in the Rectory Fields car park. We decided to pay by card for our weekend stay, which was £17.
This done we could relax knowing we did not have to worry about the car. (We were told to make sure we kept our ticket as others had had parking fines).
We had a great weekend, went to St. Davids, Haverfordwest etc. All too soon it was time to return home. So keeping in mind what I was told to keep my parking ticket, I left it in my car for longer than I would normally. And guess what, a week-and-a-half later, lo and behold, I had a brown envelope drop through my door. A parking fine from High View parking. It had recorded us coming back on the Saturday and leaving again on the Sunday. On Sunday we went to Saundersfoot.
We were told we needed to pay £70, but if we paid within 14 days it would be reduced to £35. To say I was angry was an understatement.
Next morning I scanned in my parking ticket and logged my appeal, asking the question why their system could not take into account people coming and going within their stay at the car park. I also asked them as to what happens when people have no proof as they have thrown away their ticket.
Today I received an email stating our notice had been cancelled in full, followed by an apology. They did not even have the decency to answer my questions.
I am writing this as I wonder how many other visitors to lovely Tenby have been put off by this and how many businesses have suffered also. I also wanted the people of Tenby to know what is going on.
