Pembrokeshire County Council is declaring an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) within Pembroke, in line with guidance issued by DEFRA.

The AQMA is proposed within the one-way road traffic system in part of the town centre.

Just over half of the air quality monitoring locations in Pembroke recorded nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels which exceeded the National Air Quality Objective during 2010 and 2011.

As a result, Pembrokeshire County Council must declare an Air Quality Management Area within the town, the purpose of which is to prepare an Air Quality Action Plan to reduce NO2 levels impacting upon the area.

This boundary of this is open to judgement and can include areas that do not exceed the air quality objectives but may be relevant in terms of measures that will help air quality objectives to be met in areas where they are currently excessive.

Mitigation techniques will be investigated when the Air Quality Action Plan is prepared.
