Green Links Community Interest Company organised a very well-attended Volunteers Day on Monday to put the finishing touches to their new venture - Glan-y-Mor Community Farm.

Much fun was had and many hours of work were completed - painting walls and doors, erecting fences, clearing paddocks, fixing windows and planting up hanging baskets.

The farm is situated between Pembroke and Pembroke Dock, adjacent to Pembroke School, and consists of 35 acres of land running down to the Pembroke River, a number of small farm buildings and animal pens and further workshop areas which can also serve as classrooms.

Glan-y-Mor Community Farm aims:

To provide a setting where people with physical challenges can work together with the able-bodied to plan and execute a farm project which will benefit the whole community.

Help young people, adults, volunteers and members of the public to develop conservation, horticultural, environmental and agricultural skills.

Provide farm-based training for visiting school children and students of all abilities, including those with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Showcase best practice in environmental construction and sustainability.

Green Links' mission is to provide a rich and balanced training programme that offers a range of varied courses where young people and adults of all abilities are respected, valued and able to participate in accredited vocational training and confidence building activities.

The company is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment that encourages greater independence, promotes social inclusion and enhances employability.

Green Links is one of the leading providers of vocational training in Pembrokeshire and in partnership with their sister company, Arcswood CIC, they are able to provide a wide range of land based courses accredited through Agored Cymru and LANTRA (Land based Training), such as small animal care, animal housing, feeding animals, tractor driving, hedge laying, mowing, chainsaw, cross-cutting, vehicle maintenance, tree planting, basic carpentry and many others.

To enhance the learning experience there are fully equipped training areas and a wide range of grounds and farm equipment to use. The number of animals is growing rapidly; currently there are pigs, sheep, goats, geese, rabbits and guinea pigs, with new babies arriving each week at the moment.

Glan-y-Mor Commmunity Farm will provide invaluable support to the local community by delivering training, work experience and volunteering opportunities to improve employability and sustainability within the rural sector.
