WALES Air Ambulance has been named one of ten finalists in the Selco Community Heroes campaign and is in the running for the top prize of £10,000, which will go towards providing emergency life-saving care across Wales.

Relying solely on charitable donations, the 24/7 air ambulance service with airbases at locations in Llanelli, Cardiff, Welshpool and Caernarfon, is made up of highly skilled crew members who provide critical medical care to those in need.

Nina Rice, Head of Fundraising – High Value Partnerships at Wales Air Ambulance said: “The service has changed and grown dramatically since it began, we now have four helicopters at four different airbases and eight rapid response vehicles operating across Wales. If we win the prize money, our community will be safe in the knowledge that we will be able to continue to deliver lifesaving emergency care wherever and whenever needed.”

After winning £1,000 in the regional voting round of the campaign, the team used the vital funds to make improvements to the accommodation and welfare areas at the Cardiff airbase. “We still have a way to go in renovating and upgrading the space,” added Nina. “The funding has provided the operational team with a well-regulated room to rest in at the end of their shift; it’s so beneficial for the team to be able to recuperate and be ready for their next mission.”

The Selco Community Heroes campaign celebrates the incredible work carried out by organisations across the country, with a total prize fund of £57,500 this year, nearly five times that of the previous years.

Wales Air Ambulance will now go forward as one of ten grand finalists competing for top prizes of £10,000, £5,000 and £2,500.

"Winning £10,000 would make a huge difference to our charity, our staff and ultimately, our patients," concluded Nina . “A vote for our charity means helping to save lives in Wales, 365 days a year, both day and night.”

Simon Humpage, Head of Multi Channel Marketing at Selco Builders Warehouse, said: "We are all very inspired by the life-saving service the Wales Air Ambulance carry out to support their community; it's an honour to be able to support such an important cause."

The public will have the chance to vote for their favourite community hero until December 14 with the winner being announced in January 2026.
