Councillors in Tenby have stated how lucky the town is to have a dedicated team of volunteering Community First Responders after receiving correspondence from the charity organisation.
A letter from Tenby and Saundersfoot Community First Responder trustee, Luke Treharne, came before members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night.
The group of volunteers give up oheir spare time to attend 999 calls on behalf of the Ambulance Service.
Although the group’s charity name is Tenby and Saundersfoot, they also cover from Pembroke Dock to Pendine, and Tenby to Bluestone in Narberth, with all villages and communities in between.
“Our aim for 2017 is to place a defibrillator into all local schools and community halls, but for this to happen we need help from as many sources as possible, as each unit retails at around £1,500, which includes a cabinet to allow the defibrillator to be accessed 24/7,” explained Mr. Treharne.
Clr. Ben James, who is also a volunteer with the group himself, told his fellow councillors that there were currently three to four defibrillators in Tenby, but he would get a definitive list of where they were located.
“How lucky we are to have such wonderful volunteers doing this work as first responders for Tenby and the surrounding area,” commented Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown
