The Haydn Miller lifeboat was on the water at 6.30 pm, and made best speed to the reported position, where Ferryside IRB was already searching, while Coastguard teams from Llanstefan and Burry Port performed shore based searches.
Both boats were soon joined by Burry Port Atlantic 85 lifeboat and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 187.
After a thorough search in poor visibility, lasting nearly three hours and with nothing found and nobody reported missing, the incident was deemed a false alarm and all units were stood down.
The Haydn Miller returned to station, arriving at 10.20 pm.
HM Coastguard co-ordinated the search for the dory which broadcast a PAN PAN alert at around 5.40 pm just off Laugharne.
Duty controller for HM Coastguard Rob Priestley said at the time: “It’s possible that the boat’s crew has managed to get it ashore but we just need to know that they’re safe.
“We’ve carried out an extensive search and found no signs of anyone in distress and no further calls have been received.”
