A Tenby chip shop proprietor accused of committing hygiene offences as well as breaching trading standards has had his case adjourned.

Sixty-two-year-old, Aristi Efthymiou of Morgan’s Fish Bar at Spinnaker House on Upper Frog Street was due to appear at Havefordwest Magistrates Court on Monday to face prosecutions charges by Pembrokeshire County Council, but failed to show for the hearing.

The defendant is charged with engaging in a commercial practice which was a misleading action, which is in breach of regulation 5(4) of the trading standards regulations from 2008.

The offence is alleged to have taken place on April 15 when the menu at Morgan’s Fish Bar claimed it had a hygiene rating of five when it was actually one.

Mr. Efthymiou is also charged with two counts of failing to display a valid hygiene rating sticker, with these offences alleged to have taken place on April 9 and April 15 of this year.

The defendant who was not in attendance had his case adjourned to October 28.

PCC’s prosecutor requested an adjournment so that both cases could be linked into one, stating that if the defendant didn’t turn up for the hearing, then a new warrant would be issued for his arrest.

Magistrates also heard that a trial would take place in Mr. Efthymiou’s absence if he continued to not show up.
