A lorry driver holidaying in Saundersfoot admitted drink-driving when he appeared in court this week.
Sixty-eight-year-old Keith Williams, of Lyonshall, Herefordshire, pleaded guilty to driving his Suzuki Grand Vitara at Well Park Caravan Park, exceeding the prescribed limit of alcohol, when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told magistrates that police attended the caravan park in Saundersfoot, just after 1 am, on August 28.
“The defendant, who was drunk, had been stopped in his vehicle by individuals who took the car keys off him. Mr. Williams was aggressive towards the members of the public who detained him,” she explained.
Defence solicitor Katy Hanson told the court that Mr. Williams was staying at the caravan park and was on holiday at the time with his wife.
“They have been married for some 44 years, and had a stupid argument that led to his wife, who was driving at the time, stopping the vehicle and getting out.
“Mr. Williams foolishly then attempted to drive the car back to their accommodation at the park,” explained Ms Hanson, stating that as Mr. Williams would lose his licence, he would lose his job.
“It will be a sad end to a very long and loyal career as a lorry driver,” she added.
Magistrates disqualified the defendant from driving for 18 months and fined him £120 for the offence.
Mr. Williams was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
