May has become a very important month for the RNLI with the annual Mayday Appeal taking place throughout the UK.

In a normal year, Tenby RNLI fundraising committee would have held various events, and there would have been street collections, all boosting RNLI funds.

“We have missed many of our usual events such as the Pancake Races, a fashion show and various coffee mornings - but, that doesn’t mean that the work of the RNLI has stopped,” said Nicole Evans of the Tenby RNLI Fundraising branch.

“Indeed, we have seen both boats go out on numerous occasions, despite Wally taking up residence on the slip!

“We decided that we had to do something, so the RNLI Ramble was born. We asked anyone and everyone to do a ramble anywhere, and donate a minimum of £5 to the RNLI. “We voted to run it from March to May and we hoped it would raise up to £500.

“Well, at the moment our total stands at £1,855! Rambles have taken place from Epsom to Australia, from Poole to Tenerife, across fields, coastal paths, golf courses and beaches. We are so very grateful to all those who have rambled, and to those who have donated.

“If anyone has forgotten and would still like to contribute, all committee members will be a happy to receive donations. Who knows, we might even make £2,000,” she continued.

If fundraisers feel that they’d like to do something more challenging, then the Mayday Mile is going on throughout May.

You can find all the details on the RNLI website or Facebook and donate through Justgiving.

“Pancake Day legend Jo Thomas has taken up this challenge of a mile a day throughout May and is doing well,” continued Nicole.

“We are hoping that the annual Sea Sunday service on the harbour will go ahead on July 11 when the collection will go to the RNLI and we look forward to being able to organise a few more events in the Autumn as we have no doubt that it will be another busy summer for Tenby Lifeboat crews.”
