Rescue and emergency services were tasked with trying to locate two ‘missing persons’ last Thursday (August 9).

Firstly the Tenby Coastguard Rescue Team were paged shortly before 2 pm, to assist Dyfed Powys Police with a search for a missing child in Saundersfoot.

As the team made its way to the rendezvous point information was received from Milford Haven Coastguard operations centre that the child had been located safe and well and had been reunited with theirf amily, and the team were stood down.

Later that day, the team along with Tenby RNLI’s all-weather and inshore lifeboats, were paged to assist police, following a report that a person had possibly been spotted in the sea off Amroth.

The RNLI all-weather lifeboat was launched just before 8.30 pm, with the inshore lifeboat launching shortly after.

Both boats quickly covered the short distance to Amroth and immediately began a search of the area, whilst Tenby Coastguard Rescue Team and Dyfed Powys Police searched the shoreline.

During the search, a partially deflated rubber ring was found by the lifeboats and after speaking to the first informant ashore, the Coastguard confirmed the ring was the object that had been reported.

All units were stood down and the incident deemed a false alarm.

As the inshore lifeboat was returning to station, they were tasked to check out Monkstone Point after a call to the Coastguard about people cut off by the tide.

After a thorough search, nobody was found to be in any danger so the volunteer crew continued back to the station.
