Police in Tenby have warned culprits over a crackdown on anti social behaviour in the town following a case of criminal damage at one of the resort’s gardens.

The warning comes following reports of youths vandalising a bench in the Croft Gardens overlooking the North Beach one afternoon this week. With one of the culprits said to have been seen throwing the remains of the wooden bench over the cliff top, one eye witness also claimed that one of the youths was seen defecating in a hedge at the garden.

“On Wednesday, April 18, at approximately 4 pm, criminal damage has occurred to a bench in Croft Gardens,” said PCSO Paul Emmanuel, who is the ASB coordinator for South Pembrokeshire.

“If anyone has seen anything, please ring 101, or contact your Neighbourhood Policing Team.

“This seems to be a recurring theme, as police were called several times last year throughout the summer, due to ASB related incidents.

“Tenby NPT, along with local authorities, will be targeting this area over the following month.

“We will carry out regular patrols throughout the day, and again in the evenings.

“Anyone caught acting in an anti-social manner, will be dealt with accordingly,” he added.

Tenby Town Council welcomed the extra patrols as reports of anti-social behaviour within the town by a small group of youths appeared to be increasing the town clerk said.

“Not only is this criminal damage and anti-social behaviour, throwing things around without regard for members of the public who may be in the area is totally irresponsible too,” remarked Andrew Davies.

“We were recently made aware of a similar incident at the Jubilee Play Area during the Easter holidays where a group of youths were throwing stones around.

“This was in the middle of the afternoon with a large number of small children around. On this occasion an adult in the park with his family was apparently struck by a stone and required a visit to the Minor Injuries Unit as a result.

“We are delighted the Neighbourhood Policing Team are increasing their patrols to hopefully nip this type of intolerable behaviour in the bud and will do all we can to assist in monitoring and addressing the problem,” added the town clerk.
