Police have confirmed that local missing kitesurfer Christopher Goldsworthy has been found safe this Monday morning.

A multi-agency search was launched yesterday evening after concerns about the thirty-two-year-old from the Tenby/Saundersfoot area who had not been spoken to since around 5 pm on Sunday, with Tenby’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat the Haydn Miller requested to launch at 6 pm following a call to the Coastguard stating that a kitesurfer was missing off Pendine.

The volunteer crew made best speed to Pendine in heavy seas and strong winds and began a coastline search from Pendine towards Pembrey, whilst Coastguard teams search the shore and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 187 from RAF St Athan searched from above. The search was made more difficult due to poor visibility and a large swell.?Around five hours later, with the area thoroughly searched and conditions deteriorating on both the shore and at sea, the Coastguard made the decision to stand the search down and review the options at first light.

The lifeboat returned to station arriving at 11.45 pm, and continued the search this morning.

“After spending the night on marshes near Llansteffan, he made his way to the nearest house and has since spoken to police officers,” said a spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police.

“We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal, and our colleagues at HM Coastguard and RNLI for their assistance in the search last night.”
