The local St John Ambulance Cymru division has been running a fundraising appeal for a new defibrillator to bring along to events they support.

Volunteers provide first aid cover at a range of different events in the Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire areas, ensuring help is nearby if someone falls ill.

Various community groups and businesses from the whole region have donated to the charity as part of their appeal, and the Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club has recently donated £500 towards a new defibrillator.

The Rotary Club was happy to contribute towards the appeal as their relationship with the local St John Ambulance Cymru divisions has been long standing. Volunteers have supported many of the club’s events over the years, including their annual summer concert.

Club President Phil Thompson commented:“Here at the Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club, we are more than happy to be donating towards a new defibrillator for the area. We recognise that this piece of equipment is extremely important and can save lives. We are thankful to St John Ambulance Cymru for the support they show our community and we’re glad to be supporting them with this appeal.”

Following a cardiac arrest, a person’s chances of survival are reduced dramatically for every passing minute without action. The quicker a defibrillator is on the scene, the more chance a life can be saved.

St John Ambulance Cymru advocate for defibrillator awareness and access. The organisation teaches lifesaving skills like CPR and defibrillator use for free to schools and community groups, along with providing vital first aid cover at key events on both a local and a national scale.

With the support of groups like the Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club, St John Ambulance Cymru can continue to be there for people in the community who need it most.
