A Pembroke man has been fined after admitting possessing cannabis.

Forty-eight-year-old Martin John Phillips, of Commons Road, pleaded guilty to possessing 3.2 grams of the drug, when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told magistrates that police received information and went to the defendant’s property with a search warrant on June 24.

“Mr. Phillips fully co-operated with officers and handed over a zip-lock plastic bag containing the cannabis, whilst two grinders were also recovered,” he explained.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told magistrates that the cannabis was for his client’s own personal use, and despite having 12 previous convictions for drugs matters, he hadn’t appeared before the court for seven years.

Magistrates fined the defendant £80 for the offence and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.

They also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs and paraphernalia.
