A dog was reunited with its worried owner none the worse for wear this week after a frantic phone call to the coastguard that the pet pooch had gone over a cliff.
Tenby Coastguard Rescue team assisted by the RNLI?inshore lifeboat were paged to a report that the dog had gone over the cliff near to Swallow tree Caravan park on Tuesday morning.
Along with HM Coastguard - Broad Haven, St Govan the Tenby coastguards and the RNLI’s ILB Tenby team were quickly on scene after launching at 9.30 am and located the worried owner of the dog on the beach who directed them to the area which the dog had gone over, and it was found halfway up the cliff and stuck in a tree.
It was initially decided that a coastguard cliff technician would rescue the dog from its position on the cliff and from there be lowered into the waiting ILB.
The cliff technician was lowered into position and managed to place the dog into a rescue bag for recovery, but due to the canopy of trees the original plan had to be amended and the coastguard officer and dog were recovered back to the cliff top.
Having been lowered to the base of the cliff, the lucky dog was soon back in the care of its very relieved owner, uninjured, who thanked all those involved for their quick response in rescuing her beloved pet.
