Tenby and Saundersfoot Community First Responders are hoping that members of the public get behind a Co-op campaign that will allow them to purchase new defibrillators and lifesaving equipment for the area.

The Co-op has identified 1,500 communities around its food stores where local causes and projects will be given the opportunity to benefit from the new 1 per cent community reward.

The First Responders, a community run organisation who respond to 999 life threatening calls on behalf of the ambulance service, have raised nearly £500 so far from the Co-op campaign.

For the public to participate they are required to be a member of the Co-op and have to select to support the cause they choose from the website.

The group which received charity status last summer, covers Tenby, Saundersfoot as well as the surrounding areas, receive no funding for from the ambulance service.

“We have secured a place with the local Co-operative for members to be able to donate 1 per cent of purchases to local causes,” explained the group’s charity trustee Luke Treharne.

“All money raised through the Co-op campaign will benefit the community by giving our volunteers the latest new equipment so when 999 is called the team can arrive with the most appropriate and up to date equipment,”

“Our aim is to get to a patients side and get a defibrilator to someone within a matter of minutes, providing basic life support and advanced first aid until the ambulance arrives.

“We are always actively seeking new volunteers to make our numbers grow providing more cover to the community,” he added.
